WHY  This project introduced Thurgood Marshall Academic High School students to the basics of design and fabrication. The bench integrates ergonomic, semiotic, and manufacturing subject matter into hands-on learning. Students were trained in computer design programs, rapid model prototyping, and the use of power equipment to make final parts of the bench. A $10,000 grant from the Miranda Lux Foundation provided materials, tools and faculty support.

AUDIO/VISUAL  Unveiling of the bench, which is made of maple, mahogany and plywood veneer. Students describing various lessons learned in the design and building.

Simple, But Great Students who previously struggled through classes were excelling now-they had a new found drive for school.
Thought Process Prior to finalizing their ideas, students did brainstorm and ideation exercises with mentors.
